Lazer, Helping Companies Move Fast And Ship The Best Products

Over the summer, we announced that we sold Fiix, and many were wondering what we were up to next. Today, we’re super excited to share our next chapter and our new company, Lazer.
Lazer is a digital product studio designed to help successful enterprises bring ideas to market faster and more successfully.
How did Lazer come about?
After Fiix, we and the team chose to stay in Toronto to pursue our next venture. However, our team didn’t yet know what our next “idea” would be. All we knew was that we had an amazing team of all-star engineers (who are some of our best friends and come from the likes of Facebook and Google), that we loved building products and businesses together, and that we wanted to dive deeper into industries to really understand problems that existed.
Then over the past while, we were getting approached by many organizations with ambitions to build new products or further move the needle from a technology standpoint within their companies. All of which were expressing similar reasons as to why they need help. We noticed that their challenges seemed to be two-fold:
They lacked the speed internally to execute on projects due to internal org structure, existing processes/policies in place, and lack of resource capacity.
Internal teams lacked the experience and technical capability on taking ideas from scratch to MVP to scale successfully.
In essence, they needed a “ninja squad” to come in and actually get sh*t done, take action, and move the needle.
So we thought, what better way to learn and continue growing than by jumping into the fire with some of the world’s most successful enterprises and solving some of their most difficult challenges.
With The Weather Network, we re-architected their Mobile Web infrastructure to ensure that it can scale efficiently into the future and allow the millions of consumers who visit the website everyday to have the best experience possible.
With RBC Ventures, we’ve helped them design, develop, and lead some of their most successful ventures such as Dipp, Ampli, Wellspent and others.
With Cox Automotive, we designed, developed, and launched Muvit, a dealer-to-dealer digital auction platform which is now one of the leading auction platforms in North America.
How we like to operate
We are "founders" and "doers" first and our approach to building products is different than a big corporation. We like to dive into areas by understanding your problem and iterating on solutions like we would with our own startup. We then try to scale up after certain validations are met and once it makes sense to invest further. We like to get our hands dirty and do whatever is needed to actually ship, not just talk and hypothesize.
We hold a high standard for our team, where everyone is exceptional and could be a CTO of their own company. Nobody is just an engineer, but instead a Swiss Army Knife that understands what actually goes into creating successful products.
We like to experiment and make bets on technologies that oftentimes are newer but are meant to be durable into the future (e.g. React and React Native). Curiosity and experimentation is in our blood and helps us stay on top of the latest trends, problems, and what's resonating within the developer community.
We love to have fun. We love video games (stereotypical, but true), watching movies, playing sports, going on trips, playing poker, eating crazy food and desserts, going out, and just enjoying each other's company.
In addition to our services side, we’re also excited to announce the launch of Lazer X, an arm of Lazer dedicated to founding new companies. We’ll soon be announcing more about Lazer X in the future so stay tuned.
