Our Impact

We helped Polymarket build a mobile app to bring their real-time US election predictions to a wider audience.
  1. Created a custom-built dynamic frontend in less than two weeks
  2. Leveraged open-source code for speed and built from scratch as needed
  3. Iterated on custom UI/UX to ensure map and graphs were intuitive and easy to understand

Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market.

Users trade on top of crypto infrastructure, betting on topics like politics, sports, and current events. In their 2024 US presidential election forecast, the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris surpassed $1B USDC in volume.

THE VISION

Bringing Polymarket’s real-time election data to a mobile app would not only appeal to a less technical audience, but would help establish Polymarket as an alternative data source over traditional polling results.

WHY LAZER?

The Polymarket team wanted to build and launch quickly ahead of Election Day. They partnered with Lazer because of our speed and experience building React Native mobile apps.

Approach

Building for data visualization

The mobile app would display the same real-time data as the election page on Polymarket's website, including the interactive state map, the presidential forecast over time, swing states, trending markets, and the balance of power.

We set out to build a clean, modern interface that focused on visualizing the data to be clear and understable, with colour-coded indicators for the political parties, as well as for bullish and bearish markets.
Approach

Accessible app for non-traders

Polymarket wanted their app to appeal to non-traders looking for politics and news data.

This influenced not only the simplicity of the app, but the accessibility of the UI — it had to be fluid, easy to interact with, and not something you needed to be tech savvy to understand.

approach

US map with custom gestures

We built the US map with pinch-to-zoom interaction, and experimented to make sure no page gestures clashed or were confusing for the user.

We worked with React Native libraries but also built custom gestures so that the user can zoom and pan the map without accidentally scrolling the page.

Approach

Custom presidential forecast chart

We included a line chart that displays the history of the presidential forecast over time, which took some custom building to ensure it was intuitive.

We built the UI so the labels wouldn’t overlap when the data was tightly clustered. We also rewrote library gesture handlers so that a horizontal finger swipe would pan the line chart, while a vertical one would scroll the page.

Our fast custom build and pre-launch support helped Polymarket launch the app before the election.

The Polymarket app jumped up the App Store rankings for Magazines & Newspapers, surpassing major players such as the Wall Street Journal and CNN, and competing with the New York Times app to reach the #1 spot.

We look forward to seeing how users engage with “news from the future” and what’s next for Polymarket as they take the lead as a prediction market and an election news source.
